The Orlando Museum of Art’s cornerstone Florida Prize in Contemporary Art exhibition opens this week. The exhibition brings together compelling work by progressive artists from across the Sunshine State, and this year’s show features the largest selection of emerging artists yet.

The artists featured include Maria Theresa Barbist, Rose Marie Cromwell, Jason Hackenwerth, Francisco Masó, Jessy Nite, Charo Oquet, Ema Ri, Mette Tommerup, Katie Hargrave and Meredith Laura Lynn, and We Are Nice’n Easy.

One artist will be awarded the $20,000 Florida Prize (announced at this very party), chosen by this year’s juror, Jade Powers, the Hugh Kaul Curator of Contemporary Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art.

The Florida Prize opens Friday night, and the exhibition runs from May 30-Aug. 23.

6 p.m. Friday May 29, Orlando Museum of Art, 2416 N. Mills Ave., omart.org, $55-$135.
