Homo sapiens may think we’ve cornered the market on horniness, but the diversity of human sexuality pales in comparison to the kinky hijinks found throughout the animal kingdom (and no, I don’t mean the Disney theme park). Writer/director/puppeteer Alexander Hehr (Born Ugly Yesterday, Alphabet Soup) returns to Orlando Fringe, accompanied by co-stars Sean Dunphy and Alastair Milburn, to present his latest and greatest adults-only Muppet-adjacent creations. Haywood J. Sloth, the world’s first fey folivora, is welcoming us humans into his watering hole-slash-dive bar for his fellow queer critters, so we can learn all about bottlenose blowjobs, transgender deer and surrogate swans … just don’t ask him about a certain I-Drive attraction.

Wild & Gay Animal Kinkdom is a flaming fusion of high-camp comedy and earnest education that would give naturalist David Attenborough an awkward hard-on, if not a full-on heart attack. Hysterical highlights include a drag queen cow with squirting udders, a pair of polyamorous primates and a lapdancing tortoise marionette. A handful of bits wear out their welcome, and the press preview performance was a bit of a self-admitted hot mess, with decapitated puppets and prematurely popping props, but Hehr and team proudly powered through to their audience’s dazed delight.

I don’t know how it would play at The Villages, but Orlando Fringe is full of delightful freaks who will feel right at home with Haywood. No matter what the right wing might claim, science says that the sexual spectrum is as natural as a rainbow, and Wild & Gay Animal Kinkdom only emphasizes that humans are just as messy and complicated as any other savage species.
