Award-winning singer-songwriter Zelda Grey is back at it again in her sequel to Liquid Sunshine, and this time she’s brought along a band — the You Know Whooz. The show consists of original songs from Zelda as well as lead guitarist Jeremy Lovelady and bassist Brian Byle.
Zelda encourages her audience to dance, and while I did not, I found myself tapping my foot or clapping along. She has great energy, and it’s fun watching the band enjoy themselves too. They often smiled at each other, and were well-rehearsed enough that they never seemed to break a sweat. Zelda wears a red mesh dress that reminded me of the sunset. Couple that with the folk-rock tunes I was hearing, and I could’ve sworn I was at the beach and not in the Shakes rehearsal room.
The show is essentially a mini-concert, and there were times that I didn’t catch all the words. Zelda interjects patter between songs, however, talking about how she was surrounded by possibility; even though she only wrote her first song at 29 and learned how to play the guitar at 33, that hasn’t stopped her from pursuing her passion. Whether you want to sit back and unwind or get up and dance, Liquid Sunshine 2 is a great show to soak in.
