Fogville: A Sparkly Vampire Parody Musical is a gleeful, high-octane parody that takes the Twilight saga and amplifies every brooding stare, sparkly vampire cheekbone and dramatic love triangle into campy, musical perfection. Stella MoonSwan (Kristen Lee Vire) stars as the clumsy new girl as she stumbles into Fogville, finding herself immediately trapped in a fierce love triangle between Edgar Sullen (Ansley Arthur) and Jake WolfWhite (Fredy Ruiz). The rest of the Sullen family — Alex (Alex McCray), Rosie (Anastasia Goebel), Garrett (Maddie Gilbert) and Casper (River Banks), plus Veronica (Bianca Matheson) — round out the aggressively mysterious coven as it follows the general plot line of Stephenie Meyer’s first novel.

The show’s writers and directors, Bianca Matheson and Jules Bevilacqua, combine this fanatic melodrama with exaggerated and sharp dialogue that follows the meme-ified, cringe-worthy plot of vampirical comedy, while still keeping the original story intact. Vire hilariously captures Kristen Stewart’s angsty lip-biting to a monotone T, and musical numbers feature extravagantly ironic dance numbers, costumes and singing that’s so dramatically over-the-top, it’s somehow perfect. The show is a must-watch until the very end, and my personal favorite number is the finale.

The ensemble’s energy is infectious, and the show’s commitment to its own absurdity makes it feel like a love letter to teen supernatural romance rather than a mean-spirited roast. It manages to be both paradoxical and hilarious. For anyone who ever debated Team “Edgar” vs. Team “Jake,” or simply enjoys the delicious cringe of deep-forest confessions, Fogville delivers exactly the right amount of sparkle and chaos.
