Mayhem on Mills brought the meat (and the sauce) at latest wrestling event in Thornton Park

Mayhem on Mills — Orlando’s independent wrestling upstarts — suspended all reason and reality Sunday with their latest card. Transforming Thornton Park’s Veranda B&B into the “Verandome,” the afternoon held true to the theme: “Slappin’ Meat, a Big Boy Tournament.”

During a “backyard BBQ brawl” between the team of the Drenfens and wrestlers Leva, Mikey Spandex and the Handsome Man of Science, the wrestlers leapt out of the ring and onto the concrete. Fans chased after them from one end of the venue to another to watch the action, which ended with wrestlers coated in barbecue sauce, the ground covered in hot coals from a nearby grill, and fire-extinguisher shots to the face.

Wrestler Jon Davis picked up the “Mayhem on Mills Slappin’ Meat” award, and the afternoon featured wrestlers from near and far — Dirty Devin Diaz, The American Sumo Mike Gamble, Ireland’s LJ Clearly and England’s Rob Drake. Orlando punk band The Fatties opened the event, and reigning Mayhem on Mills champion Daniel Starling was dethroned by agile big-man Leroy Shogun in a dramatic showdown to close the night.

Robert Martyr brought fans back to reality only for a moment to express gratitude and announce he’d soon be leaving Orlando for a stint in Japan, a lifelong dream. “The guys on TV would have never made it without a spot like this. Keep supporting independent wrestling.”
