Buz Donahoo is one of those larger-than-life sorts who inspire the desire to simply
well, listen. He’s the kind of guy for whom you’d pick up any check, just for the chance to hear some of his stories: He’s apprenticed at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin, tried to keep the peace as an Army lieutenant during the 1965 Watts riots, traveled through Cuba, climbed the Andes and the Himalayas, explored the Amazon jungle. For 20 years or so, he’s led travelers who want to have some of their own stories to tell through the Greek Isles, the Sierra Madres, Galapagos and on Tanzanian camera safaris and climbs up Mount Kilimanjaro. (Did we mention he not only seems to have patterned his passport after Hemingway’s, he also looks quite a bit like him? Just a coincidence, no doubt.) His recent monthly travel lectures are a chance to hear hairy tales of derring-do while sipping a beer in the safety of Urban ReThink’s armchairs. – Jessica Bryce Young
