Someone reportedly shot a bear last night in Sanford

Posted By on Wed, Apr 12, 2017 at 11:06 AM

Investigations are underway after a black bear was apparently shot early Wednesday morning in Seminole County.

The bear was found near Moton Avenue and McKay Street around 9 a.m., WFTV reports. An officer at the scene said the bear was shot, but there is no official cause of death thus far. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is currently investigating the incident.

For the past two years there have been no black bear hunts in Florida, and shooting a black bear is illegal outside of regulated hunts.

According to the FWC, there are currently about 4,050 black bears in Florida statewide.

So far, no bear hunts have been scheduled for 2017.
