There’s always a strong element of documentary photography at Snap, and 2013’s show continues that commitment. Shot in Southeast Asia using a large-format camera, portraits by Arnold depict Thai men covered in lucky tattoos, magical protection in the form of inked incantations and animal gods. Mei’s photographs couldn’t be more different: poppy, shiny deconstructions of identities in a globalized world. Kristine documents a pre-technological world of child labor amid thrilling natural beauty. Her searing photo of two tiny boys in the Himalayas hauling slate tablets almost as large as themselves inspired 9-year-old Vivienne Harr to launch a humanitarian aid campaign, Make a Stand Lemon-Aid, which has raised $500,000 in just a year to help free enslaved children around the world. Harr will set up her “lemon-aid” stand in various locations throughout Orlando this weekend; at the first stop, City Hall (11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday), Mayor Buddy Dyer will also be on hand.
