Back in March, we told you that Charleston-based Indigo Road Hospitality Group would open one of their many concepts where Dexter’s (and, more recently, Park Avenue Tavern) once stood in Hannibal Square. The group is best known for Oak Steakhouse, a Charleston institution that has since expanded to six other locations and counting throughout the Southeast.

But the group will open a brand-new concept in that very prominent corner space. The appropriately named Corner Chophouse will debut this summer and, according to a press release, “bring a fresh take to the classic steakhouse, combining timeless favorites with regional ingredients and contemporary culinary techniques.”

The menu will spotlight Florida seafood, dry-aged steaks and “sides worth sharing.” In addition, Corner Chophouse’s bar will open early for the late lunch crowd, and for those who hold restaurant lighting in, well, a special light, tables will be set with the appropriate level of luminescence.

Steve Palmer, IRHG’s founder and four-time James Beard Award nominee for Outstanding Restaurateur (2018, 2019, 2020, 2024), lived in Winter Park early in his career and was moved by the neighborhood’s warmth and hospitality. Corner Chophouse, he says, will be a nod to that spirit — “a welcoming neighborhood spot where friends gather over great food and familiar faces are always embraced.”

Hokey marketing-speak aside, the group’s reputation for building solid restaurant brands should bode well for the neighborhood. Yes, it will mark Winter Park’s fifth high-end chophouse, joining BoVine, Ruth’s Chris, Fleming’s and Christner’s, but Corner Chophouse promises to bring some much-needed buzz, and patrons, back to picturesque Hannibal Square.
