Speculation has been running wild as to what restaurant would replace Park Avenue Tavern in Hannibal Square after the subpar outpost of the NYC original shuttered two years after opening.

“I heard Brandon McGlamery is going to reopen Luma!” said one reader.

“I’m hearing a sushi restaurant,” said another.

Personally, I was hoping Carthaginian cuisine would finally make a foray into Hannibal Square but, alas, none of the rumors seem to be true (though McGlamery’s Park Light Hospitality group was interested in the space after its lifespan as Dexter’s of Winter Park ended in late 2019).

No, the Charleston-based Indigo Road Hospitality Group will open one of their many concepts in the space, one of which is O-Ku — a modern Japanese and sushi concept — so, hey, maybe it could be a sushi restaurant. They’re best known, however, for Oak Steakhouse, a Charleston institution that has since expanded to six other locations throughout the Southeast.

A representative of the hospitality group said they have “nothing official to announce,” but if Oak Steakhouse does end up moving in, it will mark Winter Park’s fifth high-end chophouse, joining BoVine, Ruth’s Chris, Fleming’s and Christner’s.

Regardless of the concept Indigo Road ultimately decides on, the space is being given a thorough makeover with new finishes, furniture, flooring, lighting and a new bar.

The restaurant group is targeting an August/September opening. More details are expected next week.
