Tony Hawk is set to shred his way into Orlando — not for a skateboarding event, but for a day at the museum.
Orlando Museum of Art is currently hosting Push, the first major museum exhibition of J. Grant Brittain’s iconic 1980s skateboarding photography. Brittain’s photos have also chronicled the career of Hawk from a teenager getting his start to full-flight as an adult changing the game. Several of these photos are prominently displayed in Push.
Now life imitates art, because Hawk will come to Orlando to participate in a “town hall” with Brittain at OMA, where the two will shoot the breeze onstage about “their 40 years of friendship and collaboration.” The town hall is paired with a very exclusive meet-and-greet situation beforehand.
“This event is a vibrant celebration of skateboarding and the rich artistry and culture that accompany it,” said Brittain in a press statement. “Tony’s influence has shaped a generation and I’ve had the honor of watching him from behind the lens over the years.”
Tony Hawk comes to OMA on Thursday Nov. 7. Tickets are available now through the museum. Word to the wise: Brittain’s first talk at OMA during opening weekend was packed to capacity; if you want to go, act fast.
