This waterfront 'Birthday Cake Castle' in Florida has a tiki hut out back and just hit the market

A historic waterfront home with a backyard tiki oasis has just hit the market for $13.8 million.

Known locally as the "Birthday Cake Castle," the home has stood along the edge of the Intracoastal Waterway in Lake Worth since 1925. It earned the nickname, now immortalized in dessert-themed stained glass on the property, after some long-ago owner purchased it as a gift to his wife in the 1950s.

A look inside the home in 2022 reveals a mix of old-world elegance and modern comfort.  The black-and-white tiled sitting rooms and ornate ceilings bring to mind a more opulent age while an all-glass wine room and full gym bring the house up to date.

"It was built in 1925. It’s generally very well-known in the area. It’s unique,” says listing agent John Pickett, with Brown Harris Stevens of Palm Beach, told Realtor.com. "Just because of its age and its pedigree, it is certainly not built to live like [you’re in a] museum. It’s built to be used and enjoyed."

The star of the castle is actually outside the home. It's lush grounds and swimming pool area give way to a tiki hut on the water and a private cabana.

The 5-bed, 4.5-bath house is well over 7,000 square feet. The sellers are asking for $13.85 million. The listing is represented by John Pickett of Brown Harris Stevens of Palm Beach.
