This rare futuristic double-dome house is for sale for $500K in Melbourne

A futuristic dome house has just hit the market on Florida's coast.

The home, located at 3500 Harlock Road in Melbourne, features a rare double-dome frame, built to withstand even the most harsh weather conditions.

It was also highlighted in a 2017 story, "The Geodesic Life," published in Popular Science magazine:

"In 1987, writer V. Elaine Gilmore traveled to Melbourne, Florida, so that she could experience life in a geodesic dome house. Unlike the wooden dome houses we covered previously, this one was made of concrete and flame-retardant polystyrene. Houses made of these materials were reportedly resistant to rot, termites, and undesirable temperatures. Home owner and American Ingenuity president Micheal Busick explained that foam retained the house’s heat during the winter, and its coolness during the summer (a high priority for any Floridian)," the story reads.

Geodesic dome homes have become increasingly popular not only because of their oddball shape, but because they're virtually natural-disaster-proof. And with increasingly concerning effects of climate change on the rise, more and more people are looking for a dome home.
