Sharks are a fact of life in Florida. If you're at the beach, there's probably one within a beachball bounce away. However, some Florida beaches are more popular than others, for sharks.
The Florida Museum of Natural History's map of unprovoked shark attacks since 1882 shows the total number of incidents by county. The museum defines "unprovoked attacks" as having occurred in a shark's natural habitat. Clearly, sharks love these Florida counties, so we ranked them from most loved to least amount of shark-related incidents.
But don't fretshark attacks are very rare, even in our lovely state which accounts for 58 percent of all shark attacks in the U.S. and 35 percent of the world's total shark attacks, and very few have been fatal in recorded history. If you think about it, that's pretty good considering the billions of people engaging in aquatic activities annually.
