Rare Florida three-story monolithic dome home is still for sale, now with an even higher price tag

A rare monolithic dome home is on the market, now at its highest price yet.

The home, located at 634 Silvershore Drive in Pensacola, was built in 2007 by Bill Magenheimer and his wife, Margo, after their previous home was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan.

"We got married after Hurricane Ivan and we went to dome school for our honeymoon," said Bill in a 2006 article for the Pensacola News Journal.

The home was first listed in November 2022 with a $1.3 million price tag before dropping down to $980,000 a year later. Now, it appears demand for oddball futuristic homes is on the rise, because the home's new asking price has shot up to $1,495,000.

While still rare, dome homes are popular not only because of their shape, but because they're virtually natural disaster-proof. They're often designed with extreme weather like flooding and hurricanes in mind and built with fireproof materials. And with increasingly concerning effects of climate change on the rise, more and more people are looking for a dome home.

Though both are half-spherical and rather odd-looking, monolithic domes are slightly different than geodesic domes, which are formed of interconnected triangular panels. Monolithic domes are constructed in one piece: a domed shell poured over a round form.

This three-story, 3,000-square-foot dome home has three bedrooms and four bathrooms, as well as 30-foot-high ceilings, and its own beach with views of Bayou Grande.

The listing agent is Bill Dyess with Avast Realty.
