'Pillars Castle,' former home of famed sculptor C. Adrian Pillars, is for sale in St. Augustine

The historic former home of an influential early-20th-century sculptor has just hit the market.

Located at 16 May St. in St. Augustine, the Pillars Castle belonged to C. Adrian Pillars, a renowned sculptor and artist who is best known for, among other pieces across Florida, the state's two additions to the National Statuary Hall Collection in Washington, D.C.

Pillars created the statues of inventor and scientist John Gorrie (1914) and Confederate officer Edmund Kirby Smith (1922), representing the Sunshine State in the collection.

The St. Augustine Moorish castle was constructed between 1917 and 1924 and has since witnessed the creation of numerous iconic Pillars sculptors, including the winged angel titled "Life" (circa 1920) now sited in Jacksonville's Memorial Park.

The home has four bedrooms and five bathrooms across 5,272 square feet, plus highlights like the Grand Hall, stained glass windows, a fireplace room, a second-story yoga space and a private outdoor courtyard.
