Photos: Universal Orlando unveils fiery new details about ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ world at Epic Universe

As opening day for the highly anticipated Epic Universe gets closer and closer, Universal Orlando continues to share information about what will make this new park so epic.

Universal Orlando Resort revealed Thursday new details about the How to Train Your Dragon Epic Universe world, including rides, attractions, immersive experiences and plenty of fire-breathing creatures.

“How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk” will be one of the five worlds featured at the all-new Universal Epic Universe theme park, set to open in 2025. The land will be based on DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon movies — specifically in between the second and third movies — and will be themed around Viking adventures and dragon training camps.

This land will have four attractions, one live show and several character and dragon meet-and-greet experiences. Guests will step through the portal and feel as if they’re in the movie as they look over a sparkling lagoon with tall Viking statues.

Hiccup’s Wing Gliders is a 45-mph family coaster that will make guests feel like they’re riding on a dragon themselves. Hiccup’s flying contraption will take riders above and through the lagoon.

“The Untrainable Dragon” is a live show directly inspired by the same show in Universal Beijing Resort. This Broadway-style production will feature characters from the movies, musical numbers, huge sets and life-sized dragons.

Training your dragon can come with some … hiccups. So, the first step is learning how to put out dragon fires. The ride Fyre Drill takes place on a Viking boat where guests will be tasked with blasting water cannons at flame-like targets to practice putting out dragon fires. This attraction will be not only a ride but a competition to see who can out-soak each other.

Dragon Racer’s Rally will be a dragon ride simulator set to reach heights of up to 67 feet in the air and throw in tons of twists and turns. Riders can practice aerobatic maneuvers and high-speed barrel rolls on two Viking-made dragon-riding trainers. Guests can also control whether their ride is “wild” or “mild.”

Young Vikings can climb, slide and explore the Viking training camp, an interactive adventure play camp with a Viking agility course, a teeter-totter and dragon climbers. Plus, what's a trip to the Isle of Berk without meeting the dragon Toothless himself and his pal Hiccup? There will be meet-and-greet experiences to meet these characters and even more familiar faces from the films.

“How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk” will feature a variety of shopping and dining experiences as well. Shops will include Viking Traders, How to Treat Your Dragon, Hiccup’s Work Shop and Toothless’ Treasures.

Dining experiences will range from sit-down to quick-service to food stands. At Mead Hall, guests can sit down and enjoy meats, sandwiches, meads and ciders. Spit Fyre Grill is a quick-service spot with grilled foods (grilled by a dragon, of course) and Hooligan’s Grog & Grue is a racing-themed food stand.
