Florida’s most recent toxic algae outbreak is so bad some manatees are resorting to drinking from a hose.
A video of a manatee in Stuart from Thursday, June 30, shows the mammal surrounded by toxic green algae. When a family notices the manatee struggling through the algae in their backyard, they grab a water hose. The algae-covered manatee then starts drinking from a hose and uses the water to get the algae out of its nose, eyes and mouth, Adam Palas told CBS12.
This algae outbreak has Martin and St. Lucie counties in a state of emergency as of Wednesday, June 29.
