A historic Sanford home-turned-bed and breakfast has just hit the market after serving visitors for decades.

Located at 420 S. Oak Ave., the Higgins House was built in 1894 for James Corcoran Higgins, a railroad superintendent, and has remained under ownership by the Higgins family ever since. It has operated as a bed and breakfast since the 1990s and remains listed on the National Register of Historic Places today.

The two-story Queen Anne Victorian-style home has five bedrooms and five bathrooms across a total 3,288 square feet of living space.

In line with its historical significance, the home boasts plenty of untouched architectural and design details. After entering through the etched-glass front door,  guests find a staircase lined with hand-carved details, two fireplaces, an antique chandelier, heart-of-pine floors, original woodwork, a sizable parlor and a front sunroom.

Modern updates include the custom kitchen cabinetry, a walk-in pantry with secondary fridge, as well as the well-manicured storybook-esque backyard.

The Higgins House is currently listed for $790,000 and the listing agent is Caroline Van Den Berg with Florida One Real Estate.
