At around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6, Joshua Prowell was accosted by Lindsey and other boys while he walked around the complex. Prowell told police that they called him names and shoved him around, and that Lindsey produced a black and silver pistol, pointing it in Prowell’s face and saying, “I ought to just shoot your ass.”
Prowell ran home and told his mother, who promptly notified police.
Carla Lindsey invited officers in to speak with her son Ronald when they came knocking. Police note that when asked about what happened, Ronald Lindsey began to explain, and then cut himself off, saying, “Nothing.” Officers confronted him about this suspicious reaction, but Lindsey remained silent. His mother gave police permission to search his room, and on his bed they found a realistic black and silver BB gun, a pistol much like the one Prowell described. Lindsey said that he had really been trying to shoot another boy, and that a confused Prowell just got in the way and fabricated the story. But police arrested Lindsey for aggravated assault anyway. He was sent to the juvenile assessment center for processing, and one can speculate that in those moments when the cuffs were clasped shut, Lindsay felt pretty helpless, like he was being dominated by someone more powerful than himself.
