Disney World’s Animal Kingdom debuted its newest furball in October when the park announced the birth of a rare Sumatran tiger cub named Bakso. Now, the cub has finally stepped into the spotlight.
Guests can now visit Bakso at the Maharajah Jungle Trek alongside mom Sohni. Disney says he may not be present in the habitat at all times, because his keepers are allowing him to choose when he’d like to join his mom.
Bakso was born to mom Sohni and dad Conrad as the pair’s second cub. His birth was planned in cooperation with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums with the help of hormone experts, weekly ultrasounds and other methods to ensure a healthy birth.
He’s the first tiger cub born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in seven years, representing a major milestone for the conservation of the critically endangered Sumatran tiger species, of which there are less than 600 remaining.
