The luggage storage company collected nearly 100,000 Google reviews from the top 10 most-reviewed tourist attractions in 100 cities around the world in October 2024, a release from the company says. Data was based on international visitor numbers from EuroMonitor’s Top 100 City Destinations report and the “Global Cities Index” by Mastercard.
The study gathered data on which cities received the highest percentage of negative reviews, including the amount of reviews that contained the word “disappoint.” Researchers also determined how often words associated with “overrated” versus “underrated” were used.
The City Beautiful came in at No. 5 on the list, with a 10.6% rate of negative comments left in reviews. It’s the only U.S. city listed in the top 10.
The highest ranked “disappointing” destinations included Cancún, Mexico (14.2%); Antalya, Turkey (12.2%); Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (11.9%); and Beijing, China (11.2%).
Orlando was the No. 1 most disappointing in 2022, with the highest proportion of visitors complaining the city did not meet their expectations. At least our numbers are looking up!
