Carrot Top is out of the hospital and recovering about a week after a suicide attempt, a source first told People.
The 61-year-old comedian, whose real name is Scott Thompson, attempted suicide on the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 18, at his Las Vegas home, according to a police report.
He has since been released from the hospital and is recovering.
Thompson tried to kill himself while in the midst of an ongoing federal lawsuit, and days after an alleged victim claimed the performer sexually exploited him in Winter Park.
Thompson is in a legal dispute filed in August by singer Brian Evans. Evans alleges Thompson sent him an unsolicited sexually explicit video, then convinced him to sign a settlement agreement.
A declaration filed Sept. 14 within that case accuses Thompson of sexually exploiting a 19-year-old boy in Winter Park in 2021.
Zachary Defazio, 25, filed the declaration in an effort to support Evans’ case against Thompson. Defazio calls himself “a second independent victim” of Thompson in court documents.
He claims Thompson gave him with alcohol while he was underage and sexually exploited him in the performer’s Winter Park home.
Defazio alleges he met Thompson on Grindr back in 2021. At the time, he was 19 years old and Thompson was 56. Defazio says Thompson “cat fished” him into thinking he was younger before they met in person. He alleges Thompson then used his celebrity status to gain his trust.
Defazio was too drunk to consent, he says.
The lawsuit against Thompson filed by Brian Evans is ongoing. Thompson’s legal team on Sept. 3 claimed Evans was trying to extort Thompson over a sex tape he threatened to release if he wasn’t granted $500,000.
Evans denies the claims. He Page Six he “never threatened — ever — to post any video anywhere in exchange for a settlement.”
Thompson’s legal team has referenced his suicide attempt in court filings while seeking protective relief in the lawsuit.
Thompson’s stand-up shows at the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas have been canceled for the time being. The next available date to buy tickets for his show is Oct. 19, according to the Luxor website.
Thompson is a stand-up comedian and actor from Cocoa Beach, Florida. He rose to fame as Carrot Top in the 1990s with his bizarre prop comedy and fiery hair. He has held a stand-up residency at the Luxor since 2005. Thompson has owned residences in the Orlando area for years.
