This particular reporter just returned from vacationing in New Orleans today only to find that we now have a two-person general election underway for Florida’s governorship. SURPRISE! Dems chose Charlie, and Nan Rich quickly endorsed thereafter. Maybe everyone will be nice now? Probably not. Most pundits are predicting a nightmare fight between Gov. Scott and former Gov. Crist, one coated in cash and acrimony. Last night’s victory speech from Crist is posted below, and it hits on a lot of important points, perhaps more than any of his previous stumping has. “Don’t boo, vote” is sort of a funny thing to hear; strong stances on reproductive rights of women and “cronyism” in Tallahassee are not funny at all. Sexual orientation even made an appearance! Scott chose not to give a speech last night, so, uh, no equal time here. Tampa Bay Times has a good breakdown of what lies ahead here.
Here’s the statement Scott released: “The next few months are about talk versus action. That means Florida will have a choice between a governor who sent our state into a tailspin and a governor who gets results. Charlie Crist failed as governor, lost 830,000 jobs, and tried to run off to Washington — and now he wants his job back. We’ve come a long way in the last few years, but there’s plenty of work left to do. Let’s keep working.”
