Orlando attorney John Morgan has begun pouring money into an initiative to raise Florida’s minimum wage to $15 an hour.
According to the News Service of Florida, Morgan’s law firm, Morgan & Morgan P.A., has already donated $236,278 to the political committee Florida for a Fair Wage, of which he is chairman. The overall goal of the committee is to boost the state’s minimum wage of $8.25 to $10 by Sept. 30, 2021, and then raise it $1 a year until it’s $15 by Sept. 30, 2026.
Morgan, who has pledged to spend $1 million to get Florida’s minimum wage to $15, already spent an estimated $10 million in 2016 to bankroll the constitutional amendment that broadly legalized medical marijuana in Florida.
As Orlando Weekly discovered back in November, not all of the employees at the Morgan & Morgan law firm make $15 an hour.
