Florida Sen. Bill Nelson now thinks Confederate statues belong in a museum

A day after ducking a question about Confederate statues, Florida Sen. Bill Nelson wants you to know he thinks they belong in a museum, or perhaps even a cemetery.

Nelson took to Twitter yesterday to clarify his stance:

In a statement to Politico, Nelson also said he believes the two statues in Tallahassee should be moved to a Confederate cemetery.

His unclear response on the this heated issue drew criticism from the black community and progressives. “I want him to acknowledge that there is no place for them anymore. Our country is no longer there, we have moved on. … There’s no need for them, that’s what Sen. Nelson should be saying,” said state Rep. Shevrin Jones to Politico.

Nelson will likely face a brutal race next year against Gov. Rick Scott, who recently echoed President Trump in saying “both sides” were to blame for the violence in Charlottesville.
