The City of St. Petersburg has closed three beaches after higher-than-normal levels of fecal bacteria (or poop) were found in the water.
Northshore Beach, Maximo Beach and Lassing Park have been closed after recent samplings detected levels of 71 or greater Enterococci bacteria per 100 milliliters of marine water.
Overall, the whole area isn’t looking great. For some perspective, 0-35 Enterococci bacteria is considered “good.”
However, on the other side of Florida, the beaches are at a acceptable level of poop water, at least in Volusia County.
