Milk District eatery Market on South was hit by a car early Sunday morning in what the establishment believes to be a hit-and-run by a drunk driver.

The vegan vendor shared on social media that the building had been struck by a vehicle around 4 a.m. Sunday. The incident was caught on video and appears to show the driver abruptly back out of the storefront and speed away.

No one was hurt, but the building sustained damage to its lights, electrical systems and some furniture inside, Market on South says.

The case is still under investigation, and as of Monday afternoon, the driver responsible has not been identified. They are expecting an update from police by Thursday, operators wrote in a social media post.

Despite the damage sustained, the market is continuing to operate under regular business hours with limited services, and is encouraging the community to support the vendors during this time.

Market on South asks community members to visit or order delivery from its vendors A Lo Vegano or Vegan Scoops. The business has also set up a GoFundMe to help offset the cost of repairs and cover lost wages for employees.

Donations are also being accepted on Cashapp ($VeganscoopsOrlando) and Zelle (veganscoopsorlando@gmail.com).

“Every contribution will make a difference as we work to bring back our full staff, reopen fully, and continue being a gathering place for friends, families, and neighbors,” reads a social media post.

Although the official investigation is ongoing, Market on South operators say they believe the suspect was a woman driving while drunk.

“Let this be a serious reminder: never drink and drive. The woman who caused this crash fled the scene — heavily intoxicated, with no regard for the lives she put at risk. It could have been tragic,” they wrote on social media.
