In a new attack ad from the anti-Ron DeSantis PAC Remove Ron, the state’s response to COVID-19 is compared to The Purge series of horror movies.

For the unfamiliar, The Purge movies center around a society that has created a single day where all laws are suspended. This day is celebrated with a bacchanal of bloody violence by some while others hide and try to stay safe.

Florida’s coronavirus policies have forbid implementing any protection against the spread of the virus, making The Purge a fitting analogy, if a bit over-the-top.

In the ad, a group of travelers flying into Florida are warned of conditions on the ground in a cheery message reminiscent of the one that kicks off “the Purge” in the movies. The passengers fearfully adjust their masks and stare out the window as news clips of rising infections and hospitals being overrun play on their seatback screens.

Remove Ron is run by lawyer Daniel Uhlfelder, who has proven to have a morbid sense of humor about the state of things in Florida. Uhlfelder first made headlines by appearing on beaches in a grim reaper costume after DeSantis’ adamantly refused to limit access to beaches.
