State Rep. Anna Eskamani will host a town hall on Wednesday at One Blue Real Estate to discuss Central Florida’s affordable housing crisis.

“Our community is facing a crisis that only compounds each day, placing our state economy and local families at risk,” Eskamani, D-Orlando, said. “It is on us to design, implement, and adapt solutions that serve families across Orlando.”

In 2018, only 13 of 100 rental homes in the Orlando metropolitan area were affordable and available to those with a low-income, according to a study from the National Low Income Housing Coalition. The Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford metro ranked first among the nation’s top 50 metros for having the most severe affordable housing shortage.

Eskamani, who was elected to her first term as the District 47 representative in 2018, has already sponsored two bills on housing, including one seeking the restoration of the Sadowski Affordable Housing Trust Funds.

The meeting will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m on May 15. One Blue Real Estate is located at 5671 S. Orange Ave. Other local officials and local housing leaders are expected to be in attendance.
