An essential watch/listen for music-loving NPR aficionados has to be the quirky-yet-crucial Tiny Desk sessions. Everyone from Wu Tang Clan to Weezer has thrown down in the cramped environs of host Bob Boilen’s, well, desk. Competition is so fierce to play the aforementioned Desk that every year there is a nationwide contest to score a coveted slot. Spinning off on that concept, local public radio affiliate WMFE 90.7-FM is hosting a live showcase this week to spotlight some local entrants.
Locals Blackberry, Amanda Lyn, Chloe Hogan and SEEK/n/FIND will all be playing the Abbey and interviewed by Matthew Peddie for his Intersection program, and it’s a good bet that much of the evening will end up on the air in the future.
Tiny Desk: Orlando Favorites is this Thursday, May 16 at the Abbey at 6:30 p.m. Event is free but RSVP is requested. RSVP here.
