Although their name isn’t as spectacular as, say, Anal Stabwound (who play Conduit two nights later), Boston extreme metal band Retained Surgical Instrument pack the shock to thrill the diehards, gag the normies and make the open-minded chuckle. Sometimes, the line between obscene and brilliant is a fine, hilarious one.
Tallying their grind, gore and song titles (“Cojones Tostones,” “Cock on the Cob,” “Piss Chugging Contest”), Retained Surgical Instrument make a plausible case for some sort of sick genius. Opening will be Orlando metal deviants Pariah, Gnarcoossee and Nocturnal Dawn.
