Some would say Black Violin are agitating classical music. Others would say the national sensations are saving it. It’s both. The virtuosic Florida duo of classically trained string players have rewritten the rules by mastering a historically Eurocentric art form and then injecting it with hip-hop style and swagger. Classical purists can clutch pearls all they want, but Black Violin have taken that fine art and made it exciting and relevant again with a flashy stroke of Black excellence.

Add in star homegrown accompanists like drummer Nat Stokes and Orlando’s own champion turntablist DJ SPS, and it’ll be a live hip-hop clinic that’ll blow the powder off your wig.

8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, Steinmetz Hall, Dr. Phillips Center, 445 S. Magnolia Ave., drphillipscenter.org, $46.61-$186.32.
