Real Dom

For live music devotees in search of the shock of the new, this week is one to get out there, with a dizzying array of artists playing in Orlando on their way down to Miami for the International Noise Conference. This particular bill pairs two performance-art firebrands – Iowa’s Real Dominic (above) and Savannah’s Rainé Rainé – with locals Channel 83 and Mother Juno (both also playing INC Miami, incidentally) for a night of outsider performance par excellence. Real Dom combines plaintive torch with hyperactive electronics and clubland chops for pure seedy glamour. Rainé Rainé, a longtime scene-builder, LGBTQ+ activist, artist and musician, balances activism and aesthetics masterfully with their multimedia sensory attack. Combining cutting anger at straight society with a surrealist sensibility and fearsome compositional skills, their work is timely and ahead of its time all at once.
