Soft Kill’s lethal take on post-punk may be suffused with melancholy, but the band led by Tobias Grave is anything but dour fashion victims. There’s a biting wit lurking in the background – the band teased a shirt design recently featuring a courtroom sketch of Tekashi69 with “Death to Pretenders” above it (relax, it’s a snippet from their song “Hard Candy”) and included a branded umbrella in their last merchandise drop. And yet, Soft Kill’s yearning, reaching, propulsive songs bring in the goths – and increasingly everyone else – in hordes. Lately, the band has delighted in confounding expectations with seemingly odd tour pairings – Skeletonwitch earlier this summer and hardcore titans Vein this time. Saturday’s full lineup is beyond stacked: Aside from the aforementioned brutal Bostonians of Vein, we also recommend the pummeling HC of Spine (with members from Weekend Nachos and Sorry Excuse).
