North Carolina’s Sarah Shook & the Disarmers achieved critical acclaim last year with their sophomore album, Years. The album, their first recorded for powerhouse indie country label Bloodshot Records, goes deep into some well-worn country themes: heartbreak, drinking, etc. But the traditionalism is tempered with attitude and punch that reveal a fondness for punk and rock. From the catchiness of the refrain “I need this shit like I need another hole in my head,” on “New Ways to Fail” – as far as we know, the first country music video to feature female skateboarders – to the rockabilly tinge on “Damned if I Do, Damned if I Don’t,” the album is nothing if not fun, and their live show at Will’s Pub this week should be the same.
