You may know them for pop-punk singles like the one where frontman Kris Roe apologizes to his kid for not being part of his life (“The Saddest Song”), or the one where they introduced a new generation of music listeners to the negligible wonders of Don Henley’s early solo work (“Boys of Summer,” the band’s highest-charting song to date) – thanks for that, really – but California’s Ataris boast surprisingly strong regional roots. For one, their forthcoming album, Graveyard of the Atlantic, was rescued from label purgatory by Gainesville imprint Paper + Plastick, and for another, they’ve toured and exchanged cover tracks with former locals Gasoline Heart, which itself kind of makes them adopted Orlandoans.
