A sitar player, a tabla player and a flamenco guitarist walk into a bar. It sounds like the setup for a punchline. Instead, it’s the format for NYC ensemble Compass Trio, and they are no joke. Their complex and entrancing sound surveys the intriguingly complementary intersection of Indian and Spanish music.
The three players conjure centuries-old traditions and draw new connections between them to create mesmerizing music that’s at once ancient and progressive.
