Exhorder are one of the classic examples of cult legends influencing everyone but juuuuust missing out on mainstream success.

The New Orleans degenerates pioneered a noise that would soon become a trademark sound of the city, thrashy and heavy as hell but with an underlying dirty groove originating from the hips … and thereabouts. This is a sound that Pantera would take to the bank later.

Or could it have been because seminal 1990 album Slaughter in the Vatican featured an image of the Pope being marched to the gallows? (Note: You should have listened to Sinead O’Connor, and you should have listened to Exhorder.)

In any case, the band is back together and taking a victory lap that will lead them to Conduit.

7 p.m. Monday, March 24, Conduit, $20.
