If you find yourself in need of a laugh and the kind of soothing baritone found only in the Elvis ’68 Comeback Special, maybe Clownvis Presley is just what the doctor ordered. Sporting a skyscraper pompadour, the self-proclaimed “King of Clowns” has made a career out of blending music, comedy and magic. Recent shows have featured everything from reimagined TV theme songs and campy magic tricks to covers of Radiohead’s “Creep” and Glen Campbell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy.” And don’t let the makeup distract you. The man can sing. In fact, LA Weekly once went so far as to declare his act “better than the real Elvis.”

His infamous 2010 America’s Got Talent audition earned him three buzzers and a rather heated exchange with the judges, but who’s the clown now? Since then, he’s shared stages with the likes of Insane Clown Posse and subversive anti-comedian Neil Hamburger, garnering a following that appreciates his peculiar brand of showmanship. Spend 10 minutes exploring his performances, perhaps starting with “Clown Motel,” and you’ll see just how far a little imagination, some greasepaint and a hip swivel can take someone.
