Every concertgoer is different in what they will bring to shows with them, but the usual is pretty standard: phone, wallet, keys and hopefully earplugs (you’ll thank me in due time). John Darnielle will probably follow the same ritual, except he’ll be bringing a 600-song catalog with him when the Mountain Goats come to O-Town for two nights.

They won’t be playing over 600 songs, but the Mountain Goats put on the type of live performance that leaves the audience pining for just one more song. The band’s recorded output has the same marathon energy, and their latest record, Jenny From Thebes, released in 2023, was their 22nd studio record(!).

Call their music folk, singer-songwriter, indie, pop-rock, whatever. Just make sure you’re at the Social this weekend to catch them. Portland-based folk artist Anna Tivel is the opening act for both nights. Night one is already sold out, so act fast.

6:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Dec. 6-7, The Social, 54 N. Orange Ave., $46.
