Remember the last time a big-name Cajun band rolled through Orlando? Exactly. They don’t very often. That’s why this concert is an imperative for traditional folk music aficionados. Led by Grammy-winning master accordionist Steve Riley, the Mamou Playboys – themselves a four-time Grammy nominated outfit – have been carrying the proud musical torch of French Louisiana for over 30 years. Their decorated take on traditional Cajun music is a refined sound that honors heritage with both craft and spirit, never compromising either. They play with the kind of skill and scholarship that passes serious cultural muster but without losing any of the rich backwater verve that’s in the Cajun marrow. Putting the Mamou Playboys’ woozy, authentic bayou jams under the party string lights at the Veranda Live’s beautiful courtyard can only result in one mighty fais do-do. Wear dancing shoes, y’all.
