Hip-hop is king, which also means that some o f the worst rap in history is enjoying clout right now. New York rapper Billy Woods, however, is the real deal in all regards. There’s not a shred of mainstream pop shit in him.
Woods’ progressive hip-hop vision is sharply literate and uncompromisingly artistic. His brand-new album, Golliwog, for prime example, is a nihilistic psych-rap landscape laced with apocalyptic jazz that plays like a fever dream. Expect a journey to the bleeding edge of hip-hop.
