The head-turning sound of Purity Ring got a lot of people excited last year, including us. It’s electronic music at its most intriguing, with stuttering samples and dark lyrics, especially their most-talked-about track, 2011’s “Ungirthed,” with its dead-serious imagery. And now, these ghosts of meaningful music past are in town with their almost just as highly discussed live show, which features lanterns that are synchronized to their sounds that production guru Corin Roddick sets off with drumsticks. It’s one of those questions always raised about electronic acts – whether the music is any fun to see live, but it seems that this duo, which also includes vocalist Megan James, has all their bases covered. We’ll see how well their show translates at the Social, but our guess is Purity Ring will pack the house for one of the year’s first big – albeit, very chill – dance parties. – Ashley Belanger
