The Obsessed bring ‘Church Within’ tour to Orlando Credit: Courtesy photo
The Obsessed, like Manchester, have much to musically answer for. As part of Saint Vitus, guitarist and belter Scott “Wino” Weinrich turned a lot of West Coast hardcore and metal kids on to the virtues of slowing things downnnnnn musically, and of skipping more than a few haircuts.

Weinrich departed Vitus in the early 1990s to return to his Maryland doom outfit The Obsessed, quickly (re)gaining acclaim and a fervent stoner fanbase with their ghostly, Sabbathian rumble.

Praise and beatitudes from the likes of Henry Rollins, Ian MacKaye, Lee Dorian and members of Pantera even led to them being signed to major label Columbia Records, which released The Church Within in 1994, a testament to how intriguingly Catholic the “alternative revolution” was. Unlike most of the bands from that era, however, The Obsessed are still kicking out the jams hard on the road.

This tour celebrates 30 years of The Church Within, still a heady listen. Do the Monday thing.

7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, Conduit, $16.
