As Tom Petty is to Gainesville, so Chuck Schuldiner is to Orlando — feel free to quote us repeatedly as to that point — and few bands pay proper tribute to the much-missed frontman and maniacal shredder of seminal metal act Death than Gruesome.

The Floridian OG death metal revivalists are touring behind newest album Silent Echoes, a ferocious homage to Death’s note-perfect 1991 prog-DM masterpiece Human — up to and including the band’s logo and very familiar cover artwork. It’s even dedicated to the memory of Schuldiner and Death/Cynic drummer Sean Reinert. And they deffo accomplished those gory and lofty goals.

Gruesome plays Conduit this week as part of an East Coast run and you owe yourself some irreversible neck damage-as-civic pride.

7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, Conduit, $20.
