Singer/artist/musician actor David Bowie (clearly) wore many hats in his life, and one of them was that of a collector and aficionado of cutting-edge works of art and design.
The Modernism Museum in Mount Dora will highlight this with an exhibition of pieces from Bowie’s personal collection of pieces by the Italian design movement Memphis later this month, titled Space Oddities: Bowie Sottsass Memphis.
The loose collective of designers created everything from colorful, edgy, off-kilter furnishings – lamps, furniture, fixtures – for the home and workplace, to decorative ceramics, glass, and even terrazzo. The exhibit will go beyond Bowie’s holdings to provide a more complete overview of the work of the Memphis designers.
Space Oddities: Bowie Sottsass Memphis opens at Mount Dora’s Modernism Museum on Friday, Oct. 27.
