The team behind the Winter Park jazz institution has been hard at work for months now, renovating the old public library building on New England Avenue for its new incarnation as a performance and rehearsal space and arts hub. In fact, just days ago, the Orange County Commission awarded Blue Bamboo a $1 million grant to underwrite construction on the second and third floors that will begin in July.
And according to an interview Bamboo headman Chris Cortez gave to Bungalower, the ongoing work will pause later this month for a grand opening concert.
Blue Bamboo Center hosts Bamboo regulars the Orlando Jazz Orchestra on Sunday, June 22, at 5 and 7 p.m. in their nearly 200-seat theater. The 5 p.m. show is sold out, but tickets are still available for the 7 p.m. show through the venue. There are other shows already popping up on the Blue Bamboo’s calendar going into July.
