An “acoustic set” usually communicates a certain vibe. Regardless of genre, that phrase typically means you can expect that things are going to be toned down. But Jonathan Pfeffer doesn’t listen to any of that racket. This self-taught musician effortlessly shocks – his music is almost a diatribe against what the acoustic guitar has long stood for. This is his first time on the road alone, but it’s our guess that the complicated primitivism of his band Capillary Action will likely spill over into his solo set. There’s not much information out there about Pfeffer as an independent act, but according to Tumblr, in addition to new songs, he’s prone to giving a pep talk or two. As an aside: If his playing or pepping manages to inspire you, when he’s not on the road, Pfeffer offers hour-long Skype sessions for guitarists looking to grow. – Ashley Belanger
