Simply put, Still Stuck is the first Fishbone album in a long time that doesn’t do harm to the band’s legacy. The energy and vitality of their once-original blend of ska, funk and punk has been variously diluted since their late-’80s/early-’90s peak. Here the group has regained their focus and bears down hard on the powerful sound that continues to be delivered in their live sets. Lyrical ridiculousness still abounds ‘ ‘Skank ‘n Go Nuttz,â? for example ‘ but the hard-charging frenzy of cuts like ‘Frey’d Fuckin’ Nerve Endingzâ? and ‘Jack Ass Brigadeâ? lays waste to the many pale-faced imitators that have copped the ‘Bone’s approach over the last couple of decades. Fishbone’s attack would exhaust many younger bands (which is no secret to anyone who’s taken in one of their concerts); it’s about time they coughed up a studio disc that captures that energy.
